Fiery crash the result of car, trailer collision in Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A collision between a car and transport truck created an incredible inferno for firemen to deal with along the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum highway in Riviera Maya.

Reports say the collision happened on the federal highway after a small car and Liverpool transport truck collided.

Municipal Police arrived to shut down the entire highway in both directions due to the intensity and size of the fire. Members of the fire department also arrived with two tankers in an attempt to control flames, which shot several meters high.

According to the police report, one of the vehicles involved was a white Pointer driven by Petronilo U. who was in a visible state of drunkenness. After invading the oncoming lane, the Pointer collided with the transport unit pulling two trailers. The Liverpool trailers were arriving from Mexico City and driven by 45-year-old Carols F.P.

In an attempt to dodge the oncoming car, the trailer swerved, however both the car and trailer collided near the diesel tank of the trailer, catching fire in minutes.

One of the two company trailers was saved from the flames. The driver of the Liverpool unit managed to get out of the cab before it caught fire. There was no word on the condition of the driver of the Pointer, however, police did not report any fatalities.
