Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum highway dead zone coming to life with installation of antennas

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. —  A section of the highway that connects Felipe Carrillo Puerto with Tulum is being outfitted with antennas. The Starlink antennas are being placed along a section of approximately 90 kilometers to enable Internet.

Javier Ayuso Sánchez, the Director of the Quintana Roo Institute of Innovation and Technology, said in January that they were working on the connection project. He also said they were working on obtaining the necessary permits to intall antennas along the highway.

That stretch of highway, he said, has intermittent Internet service, something they were looking to make solid with the installation of antennas.

On Monday, the installation of the antennas was started. The incorporation of satellite Internet will strengthen Internet coverage along that stretch of dead zone highway. There was no word on when the antennas will become operational.
