Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A Wednesday night Riviera Maya roadway accident that involved six people left two vehicles wrecked. Municipal authorities received the accident report around 11:30 p.m. at the entrance to Xcaret Park.
According to initial information, the male driver of a pickup was attempting to pass another vehicle on the highway a the park’s entrance when the accident happened. In mid-pass, he was met by an oncoming car.
In trying to avoid the car, he swerved back into his lane and collided with a taxi. Due to the speed of the pickup, the truck spun at least one full turn before slamming into a tree.
Police and paramedics were requested by those involved in the late night crash. Five people involved in the accident were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
Only the driver of the pickup was transported to hospital.
Municipal traffic officers temporarily closed the road to facilitate emergency service and investigation efforts. The road remained closed while a tow truck removed the vehicles.
