Emergency services evacuate Bodega Aurrera in response to gas leak

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A Walmart Bodega Aurrera store was evacuated Thursday in response to reports of a gas leak. Emergency personnel were sent to the shopping plaza in Felipe Carrillo Puerto Thursday morning.

Both staff and customers of Bodega Aurrera were evacuated after a LP gas leak was found in a stationary tank.

The tank was installed on the roof of the building from where the smell of LP gas was leaking.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto firemen and Civil Protection responded to the 11:45 a.m. report of the leaking gas.

Emergency services evacuated the building before crawling onto the roof where they located the leak.

Firemen said the relief value had activated due to a recent fill May 14, 2026.

According to firemen, an overload in a recently filled 2,100 kilo tank caused the relief valve to activate.

There were no injuries or damage to the Walmart store reported.
