Cancun, Q.R. — Seven electric buses have arrived in Cancun to provide airport-Tren Maya transportation. Once in operation, the buses will be used for passenger transport to and from terminals 2, 3 and 4.
The buses are currently parked at the Cancun Airport terminal and are waiting to be put into operation to travel the 15.5 kilometer airport-Tren Maya station circuit.
The road is still under construction after subcontractor delays, however, the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT) reports advancements in it completion.
The electric buses are from the Chinese maker BYD Company. The use of electric buses to transport passengers between the two points was announced in 2022. The small buses have a capacity for 18 seated passengers.
However, at the end of February, the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation ( SICT ), Jorge Nuño Lara, reported that these buses would have capacity to transport 47 people (32 seated and 15 standing), between both terminals, although this medium confirmed that each vehicle only has 18 seats.
