Dozing driver overturns with 47 tons of cement

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A trailer transporting 47 tons of bulk cement ended up overturned Monday morning on the edge of federal highway. Police found the overturned unit near the Chumpón intersection.

There were no injuries, only material damage.

The accident occurred on the Tres Reyes-Muyil stretch of highway where the driver, who was traveling north, apparently dozed at the wheel. The right side of his unit caught the soft shoulder ground that pulled him off the highway and into the vegetation.

Debris from the large industrial unit was scattered around the accident site, however, the cement remained contained. Elements of the National Guard Highways went to the scene and interviewed the driver. He was not hurt and did not require medical attention.

Due to the size and weight of the unit, it was up-righted and eventually towed to a corralón by a private rescue effort.
