Akumal, Q.R. — National Guard were first on the scene Friday in a single vehicle highway accident in the municipality of Tulum. A dozing driver has been blamed for downing a highway pole that also destroyed his compact car.
Authorities were requested along the highway near the entrance to the Tulum Country Club Friday afternoon by passing motorists who reported on the accident.
The male driver of the car was heading north when he accidently swerved into the central median, hitting the base of a metal pole.

While the driver was found without injuries, his Corsa was destroyed by the impact with the highway streetlight. The streetlight was completely collapsed and left partially invading a highway lane.
National Guard Highways arrived to move traffic around the scene while it was sorted out. Municipal personnel were called in to move the streetlight off the highway and restore the flow of vehicles.
A tow truck also hampered highway traffic while it removed the wrecked car from the middle of the road.
