Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A dismembered sea turtle was found Thursday on the beach area of Punta Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen.

The white sea turtle was found with its head, flippers and tail removed. Ángel Durán Désiga, director of Environment and Climate Change of Solidaridad, said the sea turtle measured 110 cm long and 98 wide and that during inspection, they saw that the head, fins and tail were removed, enabling them to determine the sex of the turtle.

Personnel from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone and Civil Protection were on site when the body of the sea turtle was removed from the beach.

Durán Désiga said this is the third deceased sea turtle reported for the municipality of Solidaridad in recent months.
