Torreón, Coahuila — A wealthy businessman and co-owner of the popular Soriana grocery chain, has been found dead in his vehicle in Torreón, Coahuila.
A member of Organización Soriana and Tiendas Soriana, Carlos Martín Bringas, was found dead inside his truck. Photos from the scene show Bringas was shot in what media reports are saying was a suicide. This has not been confirmed or denied by police.
What police have confirmed however, is that an investigation has begun in which they note finding Bringas in the driver’s seat of his truck with a bullet wound to the head and a .9 millimeter caliber pistol at the scene.
Carlos Martín Bringas was the director of Soriana and Tiendas Soriana SA de CV. Organización Soriana has confirmed the death of Bringas. In a brief statement, the company expressed its solidarity with the board of directors and asked for “respect and privacy for the Martín Bringas family in these difficult times.”
The Soriana company originated in Torreón, Coahuila in 1968 and was founded by the brothers Francisco and Armando Martín Borque. There are 814 stores throughout Mexico.
