Death toll rises to 3 in Playa del Carmen hotel gas explosion

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The death toll in the hotel gas explosion in Playa del Carmen earlier this week, has risen. The latest fatality is another hotel employee who was badly injured in the LP gas explosion.

On Thursday night, the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen reported the death of a kitchen worker. The unidentified man was a cook for the hotel. He was badly injured during the March 14 gas explosion that killed two others. Both of the deceased were also hotel employees.

On the afternoon of March 14, a gas explosion inside the kitchen of the Kool Beach Club Boutique Hotel in central Playa del Carmen killed two and left 18 injured.

Human error was determined to be the cause of the explosion. In a report, Solidaridad Civil Protection said that an oven knob left open was the source of the gas accumulation. When the cook finally lite the oven, it exploded.
