Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A deceased adult sea turtle was spotted floating in sargasso off a beach area of Playa del Carmen.
The sea turtle was found floating off the beach area of Coco Beach Monday afternoon by a fishermen who reported seeing the turtle floating about 50 meters from the beach when he called authorities.
Personnel from the Directorate of Environment and Civil Protection arrived and dragged the body to shore. An official cause of death is not yet known, however, officials did say the turtle was an adult weighing about 100 kilos and likely took several days to be dragged to Coco Beach by the current.
A biologist transferred the body of the sea turtle to facilities where an autopsy will be preformed.
