When questioned about how he obtained the animal, he became aggressive and was unable to prove, to the satisfaction of police, that it was his. Both he and the dog were transferred to the Cozumel police station.

The owner of the dog, who had filed a report regarding his stolen pet, was notified the dog had been found. Upon arrival at the station, the dog stands up and appears to be smiling at his owner before they were reunited.

In a statement, Cozumel police said “a member of the Public Safety department arrested a person who could not prove the origin of a canine he was walking. When interviewed, the subject could not prove that he was the owner of the dog and became aggressive with the agents, so he was detained and transferred to the Public Safety facilities to be presented before the examining magistrate.

“After the corresponding inquiries, the agents confirmed that the subject had stolen the canine from the property of the person he was working with.

“The owner of the dog went to the Public Safety facilities to recover his pet, thanking police for the attention and prompt response of the Public Safety elements.”
