Cozumel, Q.R. — The lifeless body of an adult woman was returned to Cozumel shore Friday evening. Alfredo Arellano, the Director of Civil Protection, Firefighters and Lifeguards of Cozumel, said the body was seen by a paddleboarder approximately 300 meters from shore.

Emergency services were at a public boat ramp Friday to retrieve the body. The woman, who was found dead, was brought to shore by the paddleboarder and met by island authorities.
Medical personnel placed the woman’s body on a stretcher while waiting for medical services. The woman has not been identified other than being around 57 years of age. She was located floating in the sea around 6:40 p.m. Friday.

According to Arellano, a lifeguard arrived at the dock to help the paddleboarder with the body. An ambulance was called, however, it was only to confirm her death.

The incident happened off Playa Casitas Friday evening when the woman is believed to have entered the water near the ramp of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) next to Playa Casitas.
