Cozumel, Q.R. — On Wednesday, Cozumel merchants captured a heated argument between two tourists and an island cab driver. The two men were disputing the Cozumel taxi driver’s request for 200 pesos, a fare the tourist said should have been 100 pesos.

The argument happened when the man and woman got out of a cab in front of Naval Sector. The cab driver is heard demanding “200 pesos, ten dollars!” from the man who refused saying the fare should be “cien pesos, yes it is!”
The pair continued to argue while the man and woman start to walk away. A third person, another merchant, is seen entering the circle before the video cuts out.

It is the latest accusation in the ongoing issues of taxi cab overcharges to tourists. Since the 30 second video cut out, it is not known what the man and cab driver settled on for payment.
Due to the ongoing overcharging issues reported by tourists particularly at the Cancun International airport, state Governor Mara Lezama has involved the federal government to regulate transportation fees. She made the announcement after another case of excessive charges surfaced late last week.
