Cozumel, Q.R. — A young oncilla that was found hanging out on top of a shelf of motor oil inside a mechanic shop in Cozumel has been handed over to environmental authorities.
The young cat was found by the owners of the mechanic shop in Colonia 10 de Abril upon opening for the morning. Seeing the cat on top of the motor oil display, they called emergency personnel, requesting assistance.
Personnel of the Subdirectorate of Ecology of the City Council of Cozumel arrived to collect the cat. Fernando Pola Rodríguez from the municipal department said that city personnel then notified the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) of their finding.
It is not known from where the cat originated, since they are not native to the island of Cozumel.
Pola Rodríguez said that authorities will carry out the proper procedures to ensure the cat is transferred back to his habitat.
