Cozumel, Q.R. — One man believed to be a tourist to Cozumel has reportedly been killed after crashing a motorcycle at high speed. The accident was reported to Emergency 911 in the Hotel Zone of the island Tuesday evening.

Reports say witnesses called in the accident around 5:00 p.m. after seeing a motorcycle being driven at a high rate of speed, hit a sidewalk. The impact from the hit sent the driver of the bike onto the sidewalk where he died from head injuries.

His passenger, identified only as John N, was rushed to hospital in serious condition. Witnesses said the bike was going fast when the driver lost control on a curve at Puerto de Abrigo and made front tire contact with the sidewalk.

That contact caused the bike and two passengers to skid. Municipal Police and the Sub-Directorate of Traffic attended the accident scene along with paramedics. The driver of the bike is believed to be an American man around 30-years-old. The identity of the men has not officially been released.
