Cozumel, Q.R. — Civil Protection of Cozumel closed a fair ride Sunday after a teen was tossed from the ride while it was operating. The 13 year old was thrown from the ride and onto the metal base from where she was taken to hospital by her parents.
The extent of her injuries are not known.

The accident happened Sunday night when the girl was on the ride that tilts at various angles while going up and down. During one of the maneuvers, she became dislodged from the ride and fell to the ground.
Municipal Civil Protection personnel went to the site Sunday night and proceeded to shut the ride. In a statement, they said the company that owns the ride will be fined and held responsible for the girl’s medical bills.
“Cozumel Civil Protection closes a mechanical game and sanctions those responsible after an accident. The Civil Protection Department of Cozumel acted firmly by closing a mechanical game at the local fair after a 13-year-old girl suffered a fall while the game was in motion.
“The accident, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in injuries to the minor who was taken to the hospital by her parents to receive medical attention. In light of this incident, Civil Protection personnel immediately went to the site, conducted an exhaustive inspection and determined the closure of the mechanical game.
“In addition, an administrative process was initiated against those responsible and a financial penalty was applied. The company is currently responsible for the young woman’s medical expenses.

“Authorities warn that they will not tolerate negligence that puts the lives of fair attendees at risk and require mechanical game concessionaires to strictly comply with safety regulations. They also call on the population to report any irregularities to prevent new accidents,” Protección Civil Cozumel reported.
