Couple accused of leading Cozumel criminal group since 2013 arrested on mainland

Cozumel, Q.R. — A couple reported responsible for island violence have been arrested in separate incidences on the mainland. The man and woman were taken into custody on outstanding arrest warrants on charges of drugs, arms trafficking, kidnappings and extortion.

In a report by the State Attorney General (FGE), Candye Jazmín “N”, alias “Campana” and/or “Campanita”, was arrested in Playa del Carmen where she was detained in compliance with an arrest warrant for an abduction that happened on the island of Cozumel on May 22, 2022.

Her boyfriend Abel Abraham “N”, alias “El Abelucho” was taken into police custody in Tulum.

Both were consdiered priority objectives to local authorities. They were considered recent suspects in island violence after Cozumel police completed 12 property search warrants.

Their arrests were the result of those searches.

At the time of the Cozumel searches, the FGE says the couple was hiding in a town in the neighboring state of Yucatan. Both are accused of leading a criminal group that operated independently on the island of Cozumel since 2013.
