Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — Section four of the Maya Train project has begun in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas in the state’s north. This section of the train will run around 257 kilometers of track between Izamal and Cancun.
Along the way, developers will build three stations. While the government says stations and stops may change due to operational considerations, the train stations planned for now will be located in Chichen Itzá, Yucatan, Valladolid, Yucatan and New Xcán, Quintana Roo.
The government of Quintana Roo made the announcement Friday. The Secretary of the Government, Jorge Arturo Contreras Castillo, reported that the work has begun in the community of El Ideal in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.
Heavy machinery has been brought in to begin breaking ground for the start of the project.
Section five of the Maya Train will see approximately 121 kilometers of track laid between Cancun and Tulum. To date, developers intend to build stations in Cancun Downtown, Cancun Airport, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum with stops at Xcaret, Puerto Aventuras and Akumal.
