Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A consortium headed by the company México Compañía Constructora SA de CV was awarded the contract to build southern section 5 of the Maya Train, which will run from Playa del Carmen to the Tulum bypass.
The announcement was made in a statement by the National Tourism Development Fund (Fonatur), in which it was detailed that the company presented a joint proposal with Acciona Infraestructuras México SA de CV and Acciona Construcción SA and México Proyectos y Desarrollos SA de CV.
Fonatur said that the consortium complied with all legal and administrative requirements and that it has the technical experience required to carry out a project of this magnitude.
The project will include railway and road infrastructure, drainage, dirt roads, wildlife crossings, as well as electrification for the double track, among others. Section five measures 59 kilometers and involves moving the existing road to allow for the railways in addition to building 27 vehicular and 42 pedestrian crossings.
