Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Civil Protection personnel rescued a young swimmer Friday who was reported swept out to sea. The youth had entered the sea on the east side of the island when rough swells dragged him away from the shore.

The incident happened Friday afternoon in front of the La Guadalupana neighborhood of the island.
Civil Protection and Public Safety personnel were alerted to the youth being carried out to sea by witnesses who requested emergency help.
The boy was in a rocky area of the beach at the time of the incident. Civil Protection lifeguards were able to pull him from the rough water and return him to shore without incident.
The name of the young man has not been released. Some local beaches were experiencing high swells from the winds associated with the recent cold front.
