Civil Protection closes Cozumel sewage treatment company

Cozumel, Q.R. — The director of Protección Civil Municipal reports closing a water treatment company for not having the relevant permission to carry out the service.

The head of the agency, Hector Mac Marín said that during an inspection visit at Aguas Negras, his staff found that the plant did not have any log of the services provided nor an operating license. Aguas Negras, which is a residential sewage transport company, also lacked Civil Protection consent and was without documentation that guarantees that the work is done without damaging the environment.

The official stressed that by not complying with current environmental regulations, it represents an imminent risk, damage and deterioration of natural resources.

He added that the fine to this company was 76,000 peso.
