Security forces were following up on a citizen report of the armed men driving around in a grey pickup. When police found them, at least one of the men from inside the truck took aim at authorities.

Both men eventually abandoned the truck and fled on foot.

According to initial reports, one of the suspects was apprehended while running while the second was taken into custody after entering a home to evade police.

The operation required the reinforcement of federal and state forces in the area.

Members of National Guard, the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the Jaguar special forces participated in the operation, entering the property to carry out the arrest.

The area was cordoned off while the two armed men were taken into custody. There were no injuries reported.

Authorities have not said if they were related to the nation-wide criminal gang activity from Sunday morning or if they were a separate event.
