Holbox, Q.R. — Strong winds are delaying seabed repairs in a waterline leak to the island of Holbox. On Friday afternoon, CAPA (Comisión de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado) said strong winds were responsible for a power outage.

That power outage is affecting the flow of water to the island. While attempting to restore power, officials found a leak in main aqueduct. The same strong winds responsible for the power outage are also hampering waterline repairs.
Crews are currently working to restore power and repair the leak.
In a press briefing Friday afternoon, the water company reported “CAPA, the water utility operating in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, reports that strong winds in the area have caused power outages, affecting the operation of the wells that supply water to Holbox Island.
“A leak was also detected in the main aqueduct, resulting in low pressure and intermittent service.
Underwater repair crews are currently working on the aqueduct, however, due to the waves and sea conditions, the work is ongoing.
“Simultaneously, electromechanical personnel are inspecting the control panels at the wells in the catchment area to identify and address any potential problems.

“Therefore, we urge the public to use drinking water stored in cisterns and water tanks sparingly until the work is completed and pumping is restored today. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
