Cancun, Q.R. — The interception of a boat by members of the Mexican Navy has led to the arrest of 10 illegal Cuban nationals.
It was around 11:00 p.m. when a boat was detected in Cancun waters near the Flamingos restaurant, located along the federal highway between Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam. The boat was reported by a security guard who noticed those on board the boat attempting to dock and jump ship.
The security guard alerted the preventive police and the Armada de México, who arrived aboard an interceptor-type vessel, which is when they found the Cuban boat.
Members of the Armada de México took a total of 10 undocumented Cuban nationals into custody including the boat’s captain.
State Police arrived to transport those on board to INM facilities.
