Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Most local beaches are once again free of sargasso after a weekend system arrived with strong winds.
The system, which lasted two days, went a long way toward covering a majority of the coast with sargasso from the strong winds that accompanied the storm.
City crews and volunteers were out both days removing the seaweed from public beach and hotel areas. Beaches in Playa del Carmen that have been cleared include Playacar, Fundadores up to 12th street, Mamitas and many areas along Xcalacoco.
Around Tulum, beaches have also been tended to with areas such as the Zona Arqueológica de Tulum, Playa Pescadores, Maya and Mezzanine all being free of the seaweed.
The improved weather has allowed workers to catch up with Mother Nature, removing the mounds that had settled during the two-day storm.
