Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Due to a combination of waves and beach erosion, a building at the All-Inclusive area at Fundadores Park in central Playa del Carmen was torn down by city officials.
On Saturday, officials with la Dirección de Protección Civil de Playa del Carmen deemed the structure of the small building as weakened, which resulted in its demolition. City officials say that the base of the building become weak after being exposed to water and waves due to the recent beach erosion.
With help from Protección Civil, Servicios Públicos, Zona Federal Marítimo Terrestre (Zofemat) and DIF, the building was torn down for the safety of beachgoers to the area, noting that the building was at risk of collapsing.
They say it was the only structure affected by the erosion, and that the building used as a warehouse for the equipment that is provided for those with disabilities, remains in tact.
The area was cordoned off while an excavator demolished the building and removed the debris.
