Authorities toured the hardest hit areas Sunday afternoon where they cleared flooded streets, clogged drains and removed storm debris from roadways. Personnel from the Navy, National Defense, Civil Protection, Conagua, Seop, CAPA and municipal authorities including Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández, carried out the work.

“Together with federal forces, the entire team from the State Government, the municipality, DIF and Conagua assisted the families affected by the rains. We supervised the cleaning of sewers, responded to reports of flooding and to reports from the CFE,” Governor Mara Lezama reported.

Low lying areas of Bacalar were also left under water Sunday.

“With the support of the Navy and Sedena, we delivered food packages and direct support to those who needed it most. The priority is to protect and support the affected families. We will not leave anyone behind,” she posted on her social media.

The Governor also monitored CFE bridages in response to residential electrical issues. During the tour, she confirmed that Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) trucks were patrolling the region to respond to any contingency.

CFE brigades made rounds to affected areas.

“We are accompanying the CFE brigades, responding to reports from residents of Mahahual and surrounding communities affected by the rains caused by Sara. We are working together to restore service as soon as possible,” she said Sunday afternoon.

There was no major damage reported during the passing of Tropical Storm Sara, only felled trees and various degrees of flooding.

The streets of José María Morelos were also left under water due to Tropical Storm Sara.

The State Coordination of Civil Protection also reported brigade work in Mahahual and Chetumal.
