Authorities suspend Cancun Hotel Zone restaurant after finding 97 unprotected partygoers inside

Cancun, Q.R. — State and city officials of Cancun have suspended the operation of a Cancun Hotel Zone restaurant after finding nearly 100 people inside and no health protocols being followed.

State authorities with Cofepris and the Secretaría de Salud de Quintana Roo along with police and city officials responded to citizen complaints of a private party being held inside a restaurant. When officials arrived, they found 97 people inside the Taboo restaurant, all without mouth masks, healthy distancing or any in-place sanitary protocols now mandatory for eateries.

According to their report, the restaurant was hosting a birthday party without taking any of the sanitary prevention measures into account. Residents noticed the party due to the large volume of parked vehicles outside the establishment.

A tour of the restaurant revealed the 97 unprotected partygoers inside. After interviewing those in charge of the restaurant, inspectors proceeded to evict those inside and place a suspension seal across the restaurant’s doors.
