Cozumel, Q.R. — State officials have announced an arrest after allegations of sexual abuse against a minor. In a statement, the State Attorney General’s Office reported, in close collaboration with the Mexican Army, Air Force, National Guard and Cozumel City Council, they arrested Jairo “N”, “for his possible involvement in events after allegations of possible acts of sexual abuse against a minor female victim.”
The young girl was selling food on a public street in central Cozumel Saturday when she notified her family she was being followed. Police said “at some point, the subject approached the victim.”
Public details surrounding the Saturday incident have been limited, however, they did confirm “the victim was in the Centro neighborhood selling fried foods.
“According to the investigation by the Investigative Police, at some point the subject approached the victim, who subsequently notified her family that she was being followed.

“The minor received prompt medical attention and underwent appropriate testing to determine the type of injury committed. Support from agencies such as the DIF System and the Geavig (National Institute of Trafficking and Immigration) is also being provided to monitor the victim,” they said.
Jairo “N” was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

On Saturday, a girl of around nine was reportedly sexually assaulted by a man she identified as a soldier. When news became public, angry residents protested outside the island’s military base, breaking windows and setting fires to the facade of the building. Authorities have not said what charges could be laid against the accused, Jairo “N”.
