Cozumel, Q.R. — Local authorities are investigating a shooting on the island of Cozumel that left two dead and one in hospital. The shooting happened in the 10 de Abril neighborhood Wednesday evening.

According to preliminary information, two adult men were shot around 5:00 p.m. on 55th Street between 6th and 8th Avenues. The men were on the public road when they were attacked.
One fell on the sidewalk. The second ran to his house. Both men died. A minor boy of around 12 was injured in the broad daylight attack. He was taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition after being hit by a stray bullet. His relationship to the adult men who were the targets is not known.
The deceased have been identified as 30 year old Jesús Ramón “N” and 31 year old Virgilio Ismael “N”. Authorities deployed a search operation for the gunmen after area residents reported the shooting. Police have not said if either men have a criminal record or possible ties to a criminal organization.
In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) said “the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports the opening of an investigation into the aggravated homicide of two males, as well as attempted homicide of a minor, which occurred in the municipality of Cozumel.

“This Social Representative, in coordination with the security authorities deployed on the island, is conducting investigations to determine the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as the reasons behind this firearm attack. The Attorney General’s Office reaffirms its commitment to bringing the offenders to justice.”
