Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — State authorities have confirmed the shooting death of a Felipe Carrillo Puerto police officer early Monday. The shooting happened Monday morning during a kidnapping chase in the community of X-Pichil.

According to early information, two SUVs were chasing a car through the town centre when the driver of the pursued car crashed into a streetlight. When the driver got out to run, he was shot in the head.
His pursuers then got behind the wheel of the crashed car and sped away with the two people still inside the car. The shot man was an active municipal police officer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident happened around 3:40 a.m. Monday. Police were made aware of the incident after area residents reported a vehicle chase with gunshots.
The deceased has been identified as Aurelio “P”, an active municipal police officer from the town of X-Pichil where he served. It is not known how he was related to the vehicle being pursued by the two SUVs or the people inside the car he was driving.

Police launched a Red Code search operation for the involved vehicles but have not announced the location of any of their suspects. The identify of those inside the car is not known.
In a brief statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) confirmed the shooting death of the municipal officer in Felipe Carrillo Puerto earlier today.
“The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports the initiation of an investigation following the events that occurred in the town of X-Pichil in Felipe Carrillo Puerto where a Municipal Police officer lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds.
“This Social Representation is conducting the corresponding investigations, in coordination with authorities from the Interinstitutional Group, to find the person(s) responsible for this incident and bring them to justice.

“The Attorney General’s Office reaffirms its commitment to zero impunity for lawbreakers and those who seek to violate the social peace of our State.”
