Chetumal, Q.R. — Local authorities have confirmed the discovery of a body in Chetumal to be that of one of three missing officers. A second abducted police officer has been found alive. A third remains unaccounted for.
Since June 3, three police officers have been reported abducted from the area. Two of those were active.
Over the weekend, police were made aware of the finding of a body that they have since confirmed is that of the first reported missing officer Christian “H”. His body was found early Sunday morning. Beside it was a criminal threat message from those responsible.
In a briefing Sunday afternoon, the State Attorney General (FGE) said “the FGE reports the opening of an investigation after the discovery of a lifeless body in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, which corresponds to an element of the SSC, who had a search file since June 4 of this year.
“Likewise, it is reported that this morning another person was found alive, for whom a search file was issued on June 5 of this year.
“The Investigative Police, as well as the state and federal security authorities, are working together to find the person or persons responsible for these unfortunate events.”
The second police officer, Ángel G, was found alive on Erick Paolo Martínez Avenue after being abandoned by his captors. Ángel G was found next to the body of his college Christian “H” around 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
Area residents alerted emergency services to the sighting of two bodies on the road during the dark hours of Sunday. Responding officers arrived to find the two men. One of the men, Christian “H”, is reported to have been linked with the Caborca Cartel.
