American man rushed to Cancun hospital from cruise ship

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Navy of Mexico was called to tend to a medical emergency of a cruise ship passenger who was detected of having a heart attack.

La Secretaría de Marina Armada de México from the Fifth Naval Region reports that they carried out a medical evacuation on the Norwegian Breakway where it was located 3 nautical miles from Isla Mujeres.

Navy personnel responded after a call from the cruise ship’s captain reported an American passenger had likely had a heart attack. The captain requested the medical evacuation.

A trained team headed out to open waters in a specially equipped Navy vessel to remove the passenger. Upon arrival, the Navy health team transferred a 50-year-old American man to the Advanced Naval Station of Puerto Juarez where an ambulance was waiting.

He was taken to hospital in stable condition.
