Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Another cruise ship emergency had members of the Mexican navy heading out to sea to medevac a sick passenger.
A group of medical personnel from the Mexican navy based at Isla Mujers were sent to meet a Carnival cruise ship after one of its passengers fell ill. The medical evacuation was requested by the ship’s captain.
Mexican officials met the Carnival Triump ship 4.3 nautical miles (7 kms) out at sea where an American man was waiting to be taken to hospital.
The American man was taken aboard a MLB-type rescue vessel belonging to the Mexican Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime of Isla Mujeres by a specialized team who transferred him to the Advanced Naval Station of Puerto Juarez where a private ambulance was waiting.
He was transferred to a Cancun hospital for advanced appendicitis.
