American man found living on the streets taken into custody ‘for repeated administrative offences’

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — An American man found living on the streets of Felipe Carrillo Puerto was taken into custody Monday. The man, identified only by his initials J.F., is reported to be from the state of Nebraska.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto Mayor Mary Hernández, said the man was taken into custody for “repeated commission of administrative offenses”, without defining what they were.

Authorities were made aware of the man after, according to a statement issued by City Council, multiple citizen reports. Mayor Hernández identified the American man as J.F. from Nebraska.

“A male of American nationality reported in Felipe Carrillo Puerto was placed at the disposal of the competent authority,” she posted Monday.

“The above stemmed from various citizen reports related to the alleged repeated commission of administrative offenses, as well as being in a homeless situation, which is why it was necessary to request institutional support from the competent authorities in order to carry out the appropriate procedures in accordance with current regulations,” she said in a city hall statement.

Authorities from the Southern Zone Security Committee were able to locate and subsequently take him into custody Monday.

Municipal authorities reported that the operation was conducted at all times with respect for human rights, prioritizing the preservation of public order, the safety of third parties and the comprehensive handling of the case.
