Guayabitos, Nayarit — A passenger bus carrying national tourists overturned on Friday killing 14. The accident happened Friday afternoon on the Jala-Compostela highway in the state of Nayarit.
According to reports, the full bus was carrying tourists from the resort area of Rincón de Guayabitos along the Pacific Coast when the driver lost control on a corner. The busload of tourists were heading home to León, Guanajuato at the time of the accident.
Libia García, Secretary of Government of Guanajuato, confirmed the overturning of the tourist bus on the Nayarit highway that killed 14 and left more than 25 injured. She said that all 14 of the deceased were from Guanajunto.
“This accident in which 14 Guanajuato residents died and 25 more injured hurts us a lot. At the direction of our Governor, we are in coordination with authorities to support the injured and the families of those who lost their lives,” she wrote on social networks.
The passenger bus rolled on a highway corner into a small ravine. It was reduced to pieces by the time it came to a stop. The entire top of the bus came off while it rolled, exposing the seats inside.
