Yucatan Peninsula half way through official winter season

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Another low pressure channel over southeastern Mexico, combined with the entry of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, is bringing wind and intermittent rain to the Peninsula.

The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) says this latest low pressure channel will cause rain with intervals of showers in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, as well as isolated rains in Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

The wind and rain returned after the region spent a week chilly due to the passing of Cold Front No. 24. According to the SMN, at least 26 more cold fronts are expected to hit Mexico before the official end of the winter season.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) says seven cold fronts are expected in February, some of which will affect the Yucatan Peninsula, leaving nighttime temperatures in the mid-teens.
