Chetumal, Q.R. — Maya Train repair work on the federal highway between Tulum and Chetumal has begun. State Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez says rehabilitation of the highway has been started and should be finished in early 2025.
Torres says due to the amount of damage, repairs were considered urgent, so arrangements were made to have the work started as soon as possible. The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) is in charge of the highway repair project, which according to Torres, has begun between the communities of Huay-Pix and Xul-Ha.
“Right now there are major repairs on Highway 307. Work is being done in sections and one of them is the one between Huay-Pix and Xul-Ha. Later, others will be attended to where the asphalt is also very damaged.
She acknowledged that one of the more damaged sections is Bacalar to Limones, which has become a danger. she also specified that the junction of the short route to Mérida also has a lot of wear due to the constant passage o vehicles and heavy machinery for Maya Train construction.
Torres said those areas will be repaired first due to complaints by drivers and business owners. She reported that during the repairs, the state will perform work tours with the Secretariat of Public Works and Sedarpe in the communities, where they are working, since the repairs in some area also include the issue of landslides and washed out roads.
“These repairs are also being carried out in all communities, Morocoy was the first, but a lot of progress has been made and we will soon go on a tour with the heads of Seop and Sedarpe to verify the status of these repairs, but they are going quite well,” she said.
