Tulum, Q.R. — Two young Americans were found dead inside a rented suite in Tulum Friday morning. The two area tourists were found on the floor of their vacation rental property in the Holistika neighborhood of the town of Tulum.
According to information obtained, medical personnel arrived at the scene Friday morning where they found two inert bodies. The bodies were found laying on the floor at the base of a bed near their opened suitcases.
At the scene, authorities spoke to another tourist who identified himself as 23-year-old James Mooney from Denver, Colorado. Mooney is reported to have told police that he was on vacation with his sister and her boyfriend and that all three went to bed around 11:00 p.m. Thursday.
It was not until late Friday morning that he went to their room and found them. Mooney reported arriving at their room around 10:50 a.m. when he found his sister and her boyfriend laying on the floor.
His sister, 24-year-old Shannon “V” and her 25-year-old boyfriend Christopher “M”, were discovered. The man was found laying on the floor covered with a blanket to his chest. The woman was laying beside him.
Authorities from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. The area was cordoned off and secured while evidence was collected and the bodies removed.
Authorities have not made a public comment surrounding the deaths, however, local reports say responding medical personnel believe the deaths were accidental drug overdoses.
