Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Tickets to travel Tren Maya section 5 north have finally gone on sale. The sale of the tickets to ride from the Cancun airport to Puerto Morelos and on to Playa del Carmen began Friday, 15 days after the inauguration of the route.
Authorities did not provide a reason for the two week delay in the sale of tickets, nor did they explain on inauguration day that there would not be passenger service for another two weeks.
Tren Maya made its first public journey March 15 with a 10:30 a.m. departure from the Cancun International Airport. All train trips along section 5 north have a mandatory stop at the Puerto Morelos station.
Tickets for the 52 minute ride range in price from 78.50 pesos to 197.00 pesos depending on the identification one carries. Discounted tickets can only be purchased in person at a box office.
