Two vehicle collision near Puerto Aventuras overpass leaves two critical

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A two vehicle crash near a Puerto Aventuras overpass left more than a dozen injured, two of whom, are critical. The two vehicles collided when a company truck rear-ended a parked combi Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, police were sent to the scene of the crash near the Puerto Aventuras pedestrian bridge. According to reports, the combi had stopped to pick up passengers when a pickup truck rear-ended the parked vehicle.

Fiver passengers in the rear of the combi were seriously injured March 8, 2026.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the 4:30 p.m. accident. The front end of the company truck was destroyed after slamming into the back of the combi van. Five rear-seated passengers inside the van were left seriously injured.

Firemen and ambulances were part of the emergency responders. Firemen had to use the jaws of life to cut one rear passenger free from the van. The young woman was left trapped in her seat by twisted metal from the impact.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to extract her. She, along with four others, were transferred to hospital. Two people were transferred in critical condition and three in serious condition.

Another 10 people from inside the van were treated at the scene for bruises and shock. The driver of the pickup truck was also transferred to hospital with unknown injuries.

Officers from the Playa del Carmen Police Department (SSC Playa del Carmen) closed the road to allow room for emergency personnel.

National Guard Highways arrived to tow both vehicles to the impound. Traffic was diverted to an alternate route until the site was cleared.
