Two plots of Mahahual land suspended for lack of permits

Mahahual, Q.R. — “The Office of the Environmental Protection Attorney evaluated the possible damages caused, initiating the corresponding administrative procedure, which will be followed up to establish responsibilities,” reported the Procuraduría de Protección al Ambiente.

In a statement, the agency explained that inspectors suspended projects on two different pieces of land for lack of permits. One of the closed projects involved a nearly-six-hectare plot of land where personnel were working without permission, which lead them to impose a temporary total closure of the land.

They report that on the second plot, which was around 10 hectares, the land was surveyed with the use of a drone. Inspectors found land devastation that resulted in a complete closure. They say they are continuing to work with authorities to determine the environmental impact.

The Procuraduría de Protección al Ambiente (PPA) reports the closure of both land projects in the town of Mahahual, belonging to the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.
