Tulum, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office says they have launched an investigation into the shooting death of two men who were killed Sunday at a Tulum bar.
According to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), two men were shot and killed and three left injured after a large weekend event. Municipal public servants are being investigated who, by commission or omission, allowed this massive event to be held, putting the lives and health of local and foreign attendees at risk.
They also report that two elements of the PDI are under investigation for their probable participation in a fight registered at the establishment. The FGE detailed that the events occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, in which two male persons lost their lives due to a firearm and three more, two females and one male, were injured during a confrontation inside a property located in the coastal area of Tulum-Boca Paila at km 7.5, where the unauthorized event took place.
Their first investigations establish that the bar hosted a massive music event in which alcoholic beverages were sold, failing to comply with administrative and health regulations derived from the SARS COV 2 pandemic.
The Fiscalía General del Estado reports that inside the building, FGE police elements illegally provided protection services (escort) to an alleged businessman, and that later in the evening, an incident with other subjects was recorded which triggered an exchange of gunfire.
From these events, two male persons lost their lives and three more persons were injured. One of the elements of the PDI who was injured by firearm, is reported out of danger. The FGE policeman who was accompanying him was unharmed. Both are under investigation by the Vice Prosecutor for Internal Affairs.
The FGE says that two of the firearms used were assigned for exclusive use of the activities related to the performance of their functions as FGE policemen, adding that the establishment that hosted the event will be held legally responsible with actions taken against the owners, organizers and in the same way, the public servants who, by omission or commission, allowed the massive event to take place.
The officers that were providing the illegal escort protection service are reported to be Ludwin N and Juan Carlos N. The deceased from the Vagalume-Tulum bar shooting have been identified as Arturo Alejandro N and Luis Felipe N.
