Chetumal, Q.R. — A two-hectare forest fire burned most of the weekend near the entrance to the city of Chetumal. The two hectare blaze began burning at 5:00 p.m. Saturday and continued to burn most of the weekend as officials worked to extinguish flames.
The fire was reported burning near a hotel and two residential areas. City firefighters attempted to enter the rough terrain area with their unit, but were unable to help. The National Forestry Commission requested additional support to extinguish the fire. No injuries or material damage has been reported. There was no official word on how the fire began.
