Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Officials test drove the Playa del Carmen to Tulum International Airport section of Maya Train Thursday. The test was ahead of an official inaguration visit scheduled for this weekend by President López Obrador.
On Saturday, López Obrador is arriving to inaugurate section 5 south of his Tren Maya project. That section runs from the Playa del Carmen station to the Tulum International Airport then on to the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
The section from the Tulum airport to the Felipe Carrillo Puerto train station was also part of the Thursday test run since it is the only part of section 6 finished for operation. Construction on the Bacalar, Chetumal, Xpujil and Escárcega sections in southern Quintana Roo and Campeche are ongoing.

Workers were seen along section 5 south finalizing details prior to his weekend arrival. While in Quintana Roo, López Obrador will stop briefly in Playa del Carmen before heading to Tulum where he will inaugurate the Jaguar Park and Mayan Cultural Centre in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

It will be his last work tour of the Tren Maya project as President of Mexico. President-elect Claudia Sheibaum Pardo will accompany him during the weekend tour of the region.
