Cancun, Q.R. — Another five Tren Maya cars arrived at the Cancun station Monday evening. The cars were shipped from the Hidalgo factory last week with a final destination for Quintana Roo.
The cars were sent ahead of the inauguration schedule for the remaining southern Tren Maya routes, which, according to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will be inaugurated sometime in August.
He said the remaining Tren Maya sections, which include section 5 south (Playa del Carmen to Tulum), as well as section 6 (Tulum to Bacalar) and 7 (Bacalar to Escárcega, Campeche), will be inaugurated at the end of August.
“We are working from Playa del Carmen to Escárcega. It is a great project done in record time. It is going to be completely finished even though we are facing problems,” he reported at a press conference in late April.
The five cars sent to the Cancun garage will be used along the completed Tren Maya route. The cars pulled into the Cancun station Monday evening via an escort by elements of the National Guard and several pilot vehicles due to the excess dimensions.
