Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Transit warned motorists early Monday of a bus fire along the highway south of the city. The worker transport bus caught fire outside Cancun along the Federal 307 highway.
Elements of Tránsito de Cancún responded to the numerous reports of the fire along with Cancun firemen. The bus fire happened around 6:30 a.m. approximately 10 kilometers from the city.
By the time firemen arrived, the bus has already burned beyond saving. Police shut down one lane of traffic until the inferno, which spewed thick black smoke for more than 30 minutes, was completely out.
A tow truck was called in to remove the metal shell of what was once a bus from the side of the highway. There were no reports of injuries.
On August 23, a passenger bus bound for Cancun from Merida caught fire on a highway west of Playa del Carmen. The bus was nearing the El Tintal – Playa del Carmen highway junction when the driver became aware that flames were shooting out the back top portion of his engine.
The raging fire that resulted also completely destroyed that bus.
