Thief hits up three Chetumal gas stations in less than an hour

Chetumal, Q.R. — Police in Chetumal have arrested a 39-year-old man who is accused of robbing three gas stations. Carlos Miguel “V” was captured after allegedly robbing three Chetumal gas stations over the course of an hour.

Police caught up with the thief after 9-1-1 reports of gas station attendants being stripped of their cash. By the time they found him, he had already hit up three stations.

The robberies started around 1:30 a.m. Thursday with the first robbery being reported at the Rendi Ahorro gas station on Andrés QRoo and Camelias where he made off with 2,500 pesos. A description of the armed man was provided at the time of the report, giving police something to work with.

However, he was quick to strip attendants from another Rendi Ahorro gas station in the same area, stealing 900 pesos in cash before moving off to a Puerto Maya gas station on Calzada del Centenario Avenue where he stole 2,000 pesos and a cell phone from the attendants.

In all three instances, the armed man reportedly arrived on foot, however, at the Puerto Maya gas station, he left aboard a grey motorcycle he stole from one of the employees.

Police deployed a search operation for the man, locating him around 3:00 a.m. on Estados Unidos Street in the Américas III subdivision where he was found driving the stolen motorcycle.

Arresting officers inspected a backpack he was carrying. Inside was the cash and a toy gun.
