Taxi driver charged as accomplice in robbery of 50,000 pesos

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver accused of stealing 50,000 pesos with the help of two others has been charged. Police say Juan Antonio “N” has been charged for aggravated robbery.

“According to the investigation, on March 29 of this year, the defendant, accompanied by two people, was traveling in a taxi. Upon arriving at Rufo Figueroa Street they observed the victim walking with a backpack containing approximately 50,000 pesos in cash.

“After stopping the vehicle, his companions got out and approached the victim, one of whom was holding a firearm demanding that he hand over his belongings. They then took the victim to a nearby grassy area, where they robbed him of his backpack containing the money. They then got back into the taxi, driven by the now-defendant, and fled the scene,” police reported in a statement.

Following the victim’s complaint, officers from the Citizen Security Police were able to intercept and detain Juan Antonio “N.” He was then placed at the disposal of the FGE.
